This backwash flow of the stomach's acidic contents irritates the esophagus lining. Heartburn and acid reflux are the most prevalent common symptoms of GERD though GERD itself is sometimes referred to as heartburn or acid reflux. Other symptoms include dry cough. chest pain, sore throat and regurgitation of food. Medically, doctors diagnose a patient with GERD if the symptoms occur more than twice per week.

This condition affects many people after taking a meal but they are able to manage it by checking their lifestyle and food intake. Others use over the counter medications that require no prescription such as anti-acid tablets. The main cause of the disease is the type of food that one is taking. By altering your lifestyle and eliminating the foods causing heartburn/GERD from your diet, you can lead a comfortable life free of acid reflux and its discomfort.
