Definition of Fever

Fevers can be an underlying factor to many other illnesses, from a cold, flu, fatigue or sore throat to pneumonia or other bodily infection. The definition of fever is any elevation of body temperature, usually above 98 degrees. As your temperature rises, it can be noted as the body's defense mechanism against such illnesses. In addition, it can serve as a warning to treat what ails your body, or to see a doctor.

Lukewarm showers or baths are a better option to manage body temperature compared to turning the knob to full blast cold water. Your body needs to gradually get at or just below 98.6 degrees, and such cold shock will not do much to help. General aches and pains can accompany fevers, as well as allergies, and if those are the only concerns, then little treatment is needed. However, if you have a disease or disorder that might have brought about an elevated body temperature, then you must take extra care.

For quality immune system protection to keep your temperature at a normal rate, look for natural health products. Many herbal teas, along with a dash of lemon juice, can prove beneficial to lowering your temperature.

Words from our In House Expert

dr.-dave-bordered.jpg  Dr. Dave StatesFevers are here for a reason. Raising the body temperature is an immune system response attempting to burn out viruses.  Letting the body temperature rise is a good idea, although, you should not let it get over 102 degrees. If the body temperature is stable, it is recommended to take a steam shower and sweat. This sweating can help the immune system by purging the virus out of your bodies pores.  Immune boosting herbal supplements and vitamins are also helpful and can improve your ability to fight and recover from a viral ailment.
