Concussion

A concussion is a minor traumatic brain injury that causes transient alteration in brain function. It may or may not be accompanied by loss of consciousness. It can result from any injuries that move the brain inside the head. This may include any blow to head, car accidents and sports injuries.

Concussion symptoms can be varied and difficult to diagnose. Depending upon the trauma, the symptoms can vary from mild to severe. Some of symptoms include headache, temporary memory loss, blurred vision, feeling of confusion, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness. In severe cases, symptoms may include convulsions, persistent confusion, walking or balance problems and unusual eye movements.

If head injuries are not carefully scrutinized, they may cause long term neurological disturbances. In case of concussion, the physician will examine your nervous system by carrying out tests like EEG, MRI of brain and CT scan. Careful monitoring of vital signs (pulse, heart rate, breathing ) is done.

Words from our in House Expert:

dr.-dave-bordered.jpgDr. Dave States: Concussions are very mysterious and should be taken very seriously.  Seeing a good chiropractic physician or neurologist is how this should be managed.  Proper rest while being monitored is one key feature.  Proper diagnosis of the severity of the concussion is paramount.  Feeding the body with plenty of Omega's from Nordic Naturals and also plenty of water helps the recovery.  It is very important to make sure that no other impacts happen to the brain for at least 6 weeks.  Many different neurological nutrients are available on our site to support the brain and spinal cord.
