Standard BMI

Standard BMI, or Body Mass Index, is an effective way of measuring the amount of fat on the body.  Though this system works best for those of average muscle mass, most people can use this scale to help them determine a healthy range of weight.  By entering one’s height and one’s current weight into a body mass index calculator, weight goals can be set. 

What do the numbers on the BMI scale mean?  With BMI calculators, you will also find a chart to help you interpret your results.  Roughly, a body mass index of under 25 is considered normal, while a body mass index of over 25 is considered overweight.  Beyond that, a body mass index of 30 or more is considered obese, while a body mass index of over 35 is considered morbidly obese.  By using the calculator and accompanying tables, a person can set goals for weight loss and use them periodically to determine how far they are from their weight goals.

There is more to weight loss, however, than simple diet and exercise.  With the holistic approach, one looks at the entire person, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.  A person who carries too much body mass has more than a cookie problem; there are things deep within the body and mind that are out of sync.  By approaching the person as a whole with natural health products, addressing weight can become more about embracing a new idea of the self and new way of life.  Standard BMI is just one of the tools available when addressing weight through holistic wellness.

To esimate BMI you take weight(kilograms)/height(meters)squared or weight in pounds/height in inches squared times 703.  Anything in the range of 18.5 to 40+ is the range, given that the bottom of the scale is 18 and the top is 40 being overly obese.  The perfect median is 25.
