Disordered Eating

The anorexia nervosa disorder affects more than the modeling industry. You might have a friend who is trying to shed 10 pounds in a few days to fit into the perfect dress, just in time for a social. Whether healthy or not, you have stressed upon yourself that you must lose weight — many times at all costs.

It is a disorder based on self-esteem, or the lack thereof. It goes beyond the issue of obesity and can control your mind to believe nothing is right with your body, and the only solution is to lose weight. There are many healthy ways to lose pounds and hold a healthy lifestyle, but it will not come with crash diets, starvation or any other way of disordered eating. Those tactics could only hurt you long term and take to other methods to avoid binge eating — such as smoking or drugs.

This kind of mind control can point towards a psychological concern. It could have come from past memories of regret or bullying about weight from others. That same bullying can even be directed towards skinnier people, where a few jokes about a need to gain weight can make them opt to fight to lose more instead. It can go alongside drug and alcohol abuse as dangerous addictions. While young girls and women have shown to be at the biggest risk of anorexia nervosa, it can happen to anyone attempting these methods to drop weight too fast.

Turn to holistic wellness to ease any outside pressure for such a drastic change in your body. If you are striving to lose weight, make sure it is managed with time, such as 3-4 pounds a week. If you are eating fatty foods, don't swear them all off at once, since it will only make it harder to stay away. Reward yourself here and there with a treat, and you will find it easier to remain disciplined to a balanced diet that will find you healthier and happier no matter the exact weight.
