Acid Reflux Complications

Acid reflux complications are a natural progression from this common gastrointestinal ailment. Scarring of the esophagus is a common concern for those who have long-term acid reflux (GERD). Doctors will prescribe any number of medications to treat acid reflux disease as it is closely tied to cancers of the esophagus and therefore must be treated before more serious acid reflux complications can take root. Unfortunately, most of these medications cannot be used safely during pregnancy. All medications pass through the woman’s body to the fetus. This means that when experiencing GERD during pregnancy, alternative approaches must be used to alleviate the symptoms.

A holistic approach to GERD and acid reflux complications can both alleviate symptoms and address the underlying cause of this ailment. It also gives the mother the peace of mind in knowing that she is doing no harm to her child, and in fact is providing the growing child within her womb with additional supplements that will help it grow and thrive.

For hundreds of years women would address this quite common complaint using peppermint oils—and still some today nibble Altoids as a means of staving off the burning sensation. This certainly is a safe way to get through a rough moment, but it does very little to treat the cause. Acid reflux is caused by problems with the valve between the stomach and the esophagus. When this valve is weakened or pressure is put upon it (as with pregnancy), acid can be released out of the stomach (where it can be used effectively to break down food) and into the more sensitive and thin tissue of the esophagus. Treatments for this ailment must not only target building the strength of valve tissue but diminishing the amount of acid produced by the stomach to digest foods.

Holistic remedies do not attack a particular ailment but treat the entire body, that’s why our gastrointestinal health supplements are formulated to treat the entire system. They will enrich your gastrointestinal health by decreasing over-production of certain acids and build the tissue strength to safely reduce for the expecting mother the more painful symptoms arising from acid reflux complications.

A Word from Our In House Expert

Acid reflux is a side effect of our diet from days to months prior to symptoms manifesting. In general, it is the acidification of the body.  Making sure that you alkalize your drinking water and food is an important variable. Many natural remedies such as baking soda and apple cider vinegar are effective ways to manage the symptoms. Also, there are great products from Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations that are proven to be paramount in proper alkalization of the digestive system.
